Jorge joins an Online TOEFL Course to improve his reading proficiency.

Meet Jorge from Chile, Jorge formerly joined Michael’s renowned Online TOEFL Course “The 7 Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT” in order to improve his former reading inaccuracies such as: discerning main ideas and details, and having the ability to make inferences. In addition, Jorge had a goal of scoring 25 on the reading section of the TOEFL iBT and average at new TOEFL iBT score 97. Because of this, he subscribed to Michael’s course to improve his reading proficiency with many of Michael’s academic reading lessons and practice tests.

Jorge’s first comments to Michael are as follows:

“Hi Michael,

I am Jorge, from Chile. I would like to improve on my reading abilities and aim to score 26 on the TOEFL iBT. I have attempted the TOEFL IBT three times and ended up with scores of 19, 20 and 20 respectively on the reading section. I must score 25, please help me to attain my goal of scoring 26 or more than that. I feel so anguished because of my repeated failures to obtain 26 on speaking section, the last time I took the TOEFL IBT my scores were R-20, L-26, S-22, and W-24. I have already joined your online TOEFL course and plan to use your reading section to improve.

Sincerely,

Jorge”

After being subscribed to Michael’s course, Jorge had many lessons and practice tests to improve his academic reading proficiency. For example in Jorge’s first reading lesson, he was taught how to read academic passages and how to take notes of these passages in order for him to improve his ability to discern main ideas and details; but also to be able to create organized responses during the integrated writing and integrated speaking tasks.

In addition, Jorge was able to study a few lessons that were designed to familiarize students with TOEFL iBT question types they usually see during the TOEFL iBT exam, such as: vocabulary, pronoun referent, paraphrase, insert a sentence, details, negative detail, implied detail, infer rhetorical purpose, summary chart, and schematic table questions. By engaging in this type of critical thinking, Jorge and Michael’s students better prepare themselves not only for the reading section but also for the integrated speaking and writing sections of the TOEFL iBT.

Furthermore, in Michael’s reading section, Jorge had access to over 70 academic speed reading practice tests! Where Jorge is tested to read from 100 to 350 words per minute and improve his reading speed from 100 to 350 words per minute. Because of this, Jorge learned effective reading habits such as: discerning main ideas and details, understanding vocabulary from context, understanding the organization of reading passages including transitions, and having the ability to make inferences.

In the end, Jorge learned to become a proficient reader with an ability to concentrate well and have a good reading speed. And when it came time for Jorge to take his next TOEFL iBT exam, he reported back with a score of 99 and an exceptional 25 on the reading section! His scores were listed as the following: R-25, L-26, S-24, and W-24.
